Artist Series: Nikki Villatoro

This Artist Series feature is a special one to us here at Prickly Pear Paper, we chose to highlight our friend, employee, and talented designer/photographer Nikki Villatoro to work on some cards for our new line. If you've been following us along on instagram or on our website, you will have seen her gorgeous photography and a few of her cards in action. Nikki joined the team in March of 2018 and has been a tremendous asset to the Prickly Pear family. Artist Series: Beau Brown

For our 2018-2019 product line, we decided to introduce something new, something we had been wanting to do ever since the opening of the store. Our goal was simple, create a platform where we could promote our friends' artwork on our products, a sort of tribute to the many talented people we have met over the years. Beau was the first person we asked to be a part of this new project, The Artist Series, his detailed but simplified line work seemed perfect for a crisp letterpress print. As a native Arizonan turned Santa Barbara transplant, Beau creates nostalgic interpretations of the old west and a human connection to the ocean through surfing. One fun fact Beau didn't mention below, but he drew something every day for a...

Caitlin & Sean - Los Alamos Wedding

This wedding suite was one of our all-time favorites, from the ultra-stylish couple to the 70s era design details, we fell in love with Caitlin & Sean's vintage-inspired wedding and their western saloon venue, The 1880 Union Hotel located in Los Alamos, California. Caitlin & Sean wanted a neon-sign themed wedding suite inspired by The Alamo Motel, where there wedding party would be staying to celebrate the festivities. It was a dreamy day filled with neutral florals and lovely pops of orange, amber, and green to accent the warm, historic property in California wine country. We also designed custom bar & dinner menus with matching place cards to compliment their wedding invitations and add a personalized touch to the reception.  For more information...

Design: Mame Soy Candles Color Collection

It's safe to say that Mame Soy Candles is one of our favorite local companies. We sell their soy-based candle line at our retail store and also collaborated with them on a private-label "Prickly Pear" scented candle that we sell exclusively in-store and online.  So we were absolutely delighted when the owner, Megan Hull, contacted us to design packaging for her newly released color collection for Fall 2018.   The design inspiration was a tasteful mix of bright, bold colors and delicate details. On our mood board we found shapes and patterns from vintage botany illustrations and French and Japanese candy and tea packaging. Then adding in the bright, almost neon colors made the candles uniquely designed to highlight the main...

Katie & Kevin - Sedona Wedding

We can't wait to start sharing more details of our custom wedding invitation suites on the blog. For our first feature, we decided to include some shots of one of our favorite digitally printed wedding invitations. We typically print letterpress, so printing digital allows us to have freedom to use more colors and larger details. This method turned out perfect for Katie & Kevin's Sedona wedding.  One of our favorite details of their wedding suite were the geometric-shaped menus we designed for their reception. After their invitations were sent out, the bride shared that they decided to incorporate geometric details with their ceremony backdrop and reception tables. We modeled the menus from there, and each guest had a menu to...
